Our Wines

Anne and Andrew Gaman were born in England, met at Charing Cross Hospital (London) during their medical training, and made a permanent move to Australia when they married in 1973. After spending years within the hectic medical fraternity, a change of lifestyle was needed!

Many years of searching from Bunbury to Denmark in the South-West of Western Australia, resulted in the selection and acquisition of fertile, picturesque farming land in the Rosa Glen region of Margaret River. Commuting 600 km each weekend from Perth with a vision of transforming the old dairy farm and outbuildings into a thriving, productive vineyard and cellar door, Rockfield Estate evolved. In 1999 Anne and Andrew moved permanently onto the Rockfield Estate property, and have enjoyed the challenge and unique fulfilment of managing a family enterprise in this beautiful setting. Andrew returned to pathology in Perth part-time in 2007, and now commutes again each week. Along with this he maintains his role as CEO and Marketing Director. Anne is Company Director, and Manager of Accounts. They have three children, Alex, Anna, and Andrew, who are all involved in the business.

Alex moved to Margaret River with his wife Monica and their young daughter Alexis in 1998, where he assumed the position as Chief Viticulturalist at Rockfield Estate. He is constantly working hard to ensure that vineyard performance is of the highest standard, in terms of both vine growth, and premium grape productivity.

Monica Gaman (nee Doedens) commenced her career with the Transport Department in Perth, and after marrying Alex moved down to Margaret River where she has been full-time Mum to their three beautiful children Alexis, Nicholas, and Michael. Monica now works part-time with bookkeeping, accounts, and 2 days per week in the cellar door.

Anna has a Human Resources background, and has had a continuous part-time role at Rockfield Estate, with website design and maintenance, as well as various other marketing and promotional work. Anna has two young daughters, Amy and Alyssa, and is currently living in Perth.

Anna's husband Garth is a Civil Engineer, working in the Western Australian water industry. He has been involved in the vineyard since its inception in 1996, and has completed his Associate Viticulture Degree from Curtin University. Garth plays an active role in wine sales, marketing, and promotional work.

Andrew has been involved at Rockfield Estate since its inception in 1996, and in the winery since the first vintage in 2000. He now assumes the role of Winemaker. He has been crafting award winning wines, not only for the Rockfield Estate label but also on contract for other local vineyards. He was chosen as 1 of only 10 finalists in the prestigious 2006 Young Australian Winemaker of the Year, conducted through the Australian Wine Society (NSW). Andrew has also been an associate judge at the Margaret River Wine Show, Royal Perth Wine Show and Mt Barker Wine Show and has a very bright future in the winemaking industry.

There is a new face at Rockfield with the commencement of Caroline Strong as our Cellar Door Manager. Caroline brings to the job ten years of experience within the wine industry in Australia and overseas. We welcome Caroline into the Rockfield family, not only as Cellar Door Manager but also fiancée to family member and Rockfield winemaker, Andrew. We look forward to their wedding on the vineyard later in the year.
